Rock on Events in London – Need a Taxi

RHS Chelsea Flower Show – Monday 21 – Saturday 26 May

  •              Temporary taxi rank will be located in its usual place along Chelsea Embankment and feeds to the Bullring
  •              Please note that there are carriageway works along Chelsea Embankment, which has narrowed the carriageway to one lane in each direction. There is no right turn in to the Bullring from Chelsea Embankment

 

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park music concert – Tuesday 22 and Friday 25 May – Which will be marshalled

  •              From 18:00 to 22:30 on each day, the Olympic Stadium will host a Rolling Stones concert with capacity crowds of 70,000 expected. There will be local road closures and it is anticipated there will be heavier than usual traffic and pedestrian numbers in the area on both days

 

International cricket, Lord’s – Thursday 24 to Monday 28 May

  •              Lord’s Cricket Ground will host the first of two Test Matches between England and Pakistan from 11:00 to 18:30 each day. The capacity of the ground is 28,000 each day

 

Comic Con, ExCel – Friday 25 to Sunday 27 May

  •              Anticipated to attract over 25,000 people on Friday, 65,000 on the Saturday and 50,000 on the Sunday. The show hours are 10:00 to 19:00 on Friday, 09:00 to 19:00 on Saturday and 09:00 to 17:00 on Sunday
  •              There are no road closures for this event
  •              Additional DLR services will operate between West Ham and Prince Regent but will not be advertised. Trains will not serve Custom House eastbound between 07:00 and 19:00. Prince Regent will have queue management in place for egress each day
  •              Canning Town is also expected to be busy all day with a large interchange between the Jubilee line and DLR

 

Major Generals Review (Trooping the Colour) – Saturday 26 May

  •              Annual ceremonial event held on Horse Guards Parade between 10:00 and 13:00. To facilitate the event, Constitution Hill, Spur Road, The Mall, Admiralty Arch, Marlborough Road, Birdcage Walk and Great George Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 06:00 to enable the installation of security measures. At 09:10 and 13:00 there will also be short closures on Buckingham Palace Road northbound at the junction of Bressenden Place, Buckingham Gate, and Palace Street

 

Premiership Rugby final, Twickenham – Saturday 26 May

  •              Twickenham Stadium will host the Aviva Premiership Rugby final match. Kick-off is at 15:00 with up to 82,000 expected to attend. Pedestrian numbers and traffic levels in the Twickenham area should increase before and after the matches
  •              Roads likely to be affected are the A316 Chertsey Road, all roads leading to Twickenham Station and around the stadium itself. London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will be closed before and after the game to assist with crowd movements; diversions will be in place in the Twickenham area

 

Steel Yard Festival, Finsbury Park – Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May

  •              Up to 15,000 expected to attend this annual event each day. Gates open from 11:00 both days with the event planned to end at 22:30 on Saturday and 22:00 on Sunday
  •              To facilitate the egress from the event, Stroud Green Road will be closed to vehicles between 21:30 and 23:00 on the Saturday and between 21:00 and 22:30 on the Sunday
  •              Finsbury Park Station taxi rank is not affected by this event

 

Victoria Park events – Friday 25 May to Sunday 3 June – Which will be marshalled

  •              All Points East music events will be held at Victoria Park. A marshalled taxi rank and PHV pick up area will be in operation at Royal Gate West (Victoria Park). Access is via Gore Rd (from Victoria Park Rd). Grove Rd & part of Old Ford Rd are closed as part of the event road closure. Suburban drivers licenced for Newham and/or Hackney extension can use the taxi rank
  •              To facilitate crowds at egress, from 21:00 (Friday and Saturday) and 20:30 (Sunday) Grove Road will close between Victoria Park Road and Roman Road, and Old Ford Road will close between St Stephen’s Road and Bonner Street. From 21:00 the Grove Road / Roman Road junction will be under manual control. Traffic and transport in the area may experience delays

 

We Are Festival (Damyns Hall Aerodrome), Upminster – Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May – Which will be marshalled

  •              Up to 5,000 people are expected to arrive at this annual event on the Friday and remain in a campsite. On Saturday, up to 35,000 people are expected to attend and up to 30,000 are expected on Sunday. Local traffic management measures will be in place. A dedicated, free shuttle-bus service will operate between Upminster Tube station and the event site

 

Championship playoff final, Wembley – Saturday 26 May

  •              Gates open at 15:30 and kick-off is at 17:00. With up to 75,000 expected to attend, there should be higher than usual numbers of pedestrians in the Wembley area, together with increased traffic levels before and after the match
  •              Roads likely to be affected include the A406, the Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads surrounding the stadium

 

Vitality Westminster Mile – Sunday 27 May

  •              Starting at 09:30, up to 8,000 people will participate in this annual event. Starting in The Mall, the route is in St James’s Park, and uses Horse Guards Road, Birdcage Walk and Spur Road, where it finishes outside Buckingham Palace. The last race starts at 15:00
  •              Road closures will remain in place post-event in preparation for the following day’s event. Local traffic and pedestrian levels in the area are likely to increase

 

International rugby, Twickenham – Sunday 27 May

  •              Twickenham Stadium will host the England v Barbarians rugby match. Kick-off is at 15:00 with up to 60,000 expected to attend. Supporting matches will kick-off at 10:00, 12:00 and 17:15. Pedestrian numbers and traffic levels in the Twickenham area should increase both before and after the matches
  •              Roads likely to be affected are the A316 Chertsey Road, all roads leading to Twickenham Station and around the stadium itself. London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will be closed both before and after the game to assist with crowd movements; diversions will be implemented in the Twickenham area

 

Gala Festival, Peckham – Sunday 27 and Monday 28 May – marshalled on Sunday only

  •              This annual free-to-attend music, culture and arts festival has moved from Brockwell Park to Peckham Rye Park this year. Open to ticket holders from 11:00 to 22:00, there is a capacity of 10,000. No road closures are planned but local traffic and pedestrian levels are likely to increase
  •              There will be a marshaled taxi and PHV holding area within Peckham Rye Park. The entrance to the holding area will be where Strakers Road meets Peckham Rye
  •              Monday 28 May 2018 event is family-orientated with only 3,000 expected

 

League One playoff final, Wembley – Sunday 27 May

  •              Gates open at 13:30 and kick-off is at 15:00. With up to 50,000 expected to attend, higher than usual numbers of pedestrians should be in the area, together with increased traffic levels before and after the match
  •              Roads likely to be affected include the A406, the Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads surrounding the stadium

 

Vitality London 10,000 – Monday 28 May

  •              The annual Vitality London 10,000, with up to 16,500 runners expected to participate, will start and finish in St James’s Park. Green Park will be used as the runner’s assembly area. The first race starts at 09:55 and the final runner is anticipated to have finished by 13:30
  •              The route is as follows: The Mall, Trafalgar Square, Strand, Aldwych, Fleet Street, Chancery Lane, Holborn, Holborn Viaduct, Newgate Street, King Edward Street, Angel Street, St Martins Le Grand, Cheapside, King Street, Gresham Street, Lothbury, Bartholomew Lane, Threadneedle Street, Queen Victoria Street, Cannon Street, New Change, Newgate Street, Holborn Viaduct, New Fetter Lane, Fleet Street, Strand, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Parliament Square, Great George Street, Birdcage Walk and Spur Road to finish. The Royal Parks roads (Constitution Hill, Link Road, Spur Road, Birdcage Walk, The Mall, Horse Guards Road and Marlborough Road) will have remained closed from the previous day. Further closures along the route and on adjacent roads will be implemented from 08:00 with the exception of Waterloo Bridge, Aldwych and Kingsway which close at 09:30. All roads are anticipated to be fully reopened by 14:00 with the exception of roads within St. James’s Park which will reopen at 22:00
  •              The taxi ranks below will be suspended between the hours of 07:00 – 14:00:
